As the Managing Director of the organization Cidade Criativa / Cultural Transformations, it is our pleasure to invite you to participate in the 2011 Forum [Rio] Creative City: Constructing the Agenda 21 for Culture/Rio de Janeiro, to be held at the Museum of Modern Art of Rio de Janeiro, on November 16 – 19, 2011.

Since October 2010, when we established the Forum and launched the campaign [Rio] Creative City, we have been promoting the discussion of the role of Arts & Culture in the sustainable development of communities, neighborhoods, and cities. As the city of Rio de Janeiro gets ready to host the Rio+20, in 2012, the World Cup, in 2014, and the Olympic Games, in 2016, we feel it is our responsibility to convene the arts and culture sector to ensure that CULTURE, now recognized as the “Fourth Pillar of Sustainable Development”, will be included in all the conversations that will take place. In light of that, Cidade Criativa / Cultural Transformations established a partnership with the governmental agency that is overseeing the process of the State of Rio de Janeiro Agenda 21, to coordinate the participative processes leading to the construction of the city of Rio de Janeiro’s Agenda 21 for Culture.

Believing that the exchange of information between local, national and global experiences is the best way to construct a document that will be meaningful for all, the 2011 Forum Rio Creative City is convening local, national, and international leaders to discuss fundamental cultural issues for the 21st Century. We would like to hear yours, and will be delighted if you could send a representative to this conference.
